About Us

Hello, we’re María and Javi, both of us love nature and we specially love animals.

Our cattery’s name is Oáklaguz and we breed Norwegian Forest cats.

We are members of FIFé (register nº: 1957) through Spanish FIFé club: ASFE (Asociación Felina Española).

María nº 489 and Javi nº 488. All our cats and kittens are registered in FIFé-ASFE.

Hello, I’m María, I’m a Primary teacher and I love cats very much. Since I was a child I have got animals at home: tortoises, fishes, birds, hamsters, Russians hamsters, a rabbit and two dogs (thanks to my parents for their patient); even I’ve  got an auxiliary veterinarian curse and I practiced in a veterinarian clinic, maybe I’ll come back with this idea again. I’ve always wanted to have got cats because I consider the feline world very interesting however my dogs arrived before and one of them couldn’t live with cats. At the end I got my cats and “one dream came true”.

Hello, I’m Javi, I’m a biologist teacher in a High school and I love animals. Along my life I've had a lot of animals, two of them were very special for me the dogs "Chiqui" and "Tina". Then my cats came and I got into the world of the feline and from that moment my cats are part of my family and an important part of my life too.

We met us studying biology and since then we share our love for nature, animals and cats.We were some years living in Madrid, it was hard but helpful; we had to be separated because of our jobs. Now we’ve achieved to come back to Badajoz city (Extremadura), near our family and closed friends where we hope to live together, happily forever and ever.

While we were living in Madrid we went to different shows in Spain and abroad, where we learnt a lot, listening to the judgment, to others breeders and even helping to the organization in Spain as Steward (María). We knew some wonderful closed friends as Joaquín and Teresa of Tsavo, Brenda and Jóse of Vikingo, Miguel and Eva of Vestverg, Luis and Ana Paula of ShadowEyes, and others that we mentioned in our blog. They taught us lots of things and we’re learning more, we read on magazines, on internet and foros about cats to learn more and more every day.

Javi and I were sure about sharing our life with a cat when we lived together. After searching on internet, reading a lot, talking with breeders and going to some shows we decided to have got two females cat, one Russian Blue "Gyssa" (Guyssa Kiksant*E) and one Norwegian Forest Cat "Aivi"(Fonte Escura Jakobusland*E). We had to wait one year more to get the cat we wanted from the cattery we had chosen and during this time we learnt more and we definitely decided to be breeders. Thanks to Edith and Carlos of Jakobusland and Teresa of Kiksant for helping us in the beginning of this adventure.

Then, because of the job, Javi and I were living separated and moved some times so we had to postpone our planes of breeding until now that we’re living in Badajoz (Extremadura). We’re very excited with our new planes. During this time Gyssa had to be sterilized because she began to be on heat many times, didn’t eat, lost weight and other problems. We live with our cats at home and the happiness of them is very important for us, for this reason we considered this option the best decision.

During a long time (more than 2 years)we were looking for a new female to complete our cattery. We´ve a beautiful female who is "Aivi" Fonte Escura Jakobusland*E with a fantastic standard and behaviour so it was very hard to find out a new female better that convince us because for us the standard, the lines... are importants, "of course" but the ideas of the cattery and the breeder where the new female was born is very important.

At the end, until a long search,we falled in love with a litlle blue and white princess, after a lot of e-mails and the help of our friend Edith (thank you very much),it was possible that our "petit bijou" (Elizabeth Taylor Des Iles Lofoten*F) we called her "LIzoo" come home. Thanks Giséle for letting go her and trust on us because we know how special she is.

Our Goal

Our main aim is to maintain the standard of the breed NFO giving great importance to the character.
We focus in the old lines of NFO cats with strong bones and wild expression. We want to get cats with the sweetest temperament and balanced; for this reason we’ll have few litters every year, we would like to give our kittens all our attention and care them appropriately.

Why Oáklaguz?

Along the history the cat has been related with magic and mystery.
We wanted to put these ideas in our cattery’s name because we really think our cats are special, with a great elegance when they move and a deep sight; they’ve the sixth sense which only some privilege living animals have. They are magic animals.

Our cattery’s name has two words “Oak” and “Laguz”.

OAK:  Oak tree or Evergreen oak, generus “Quercus”. A large tree that produces small nuts called acorns; they can live to be hundred of years old.

In Celtic mythology, it was believed to be a gateway between worlds, or a place where portals could be erected.

In Norse mythology, the oak was sacred to the thunder god, Thor. Some scholars speculate that this is because the oak, as the largest tree in northern Europe, was the one most often struck by lightning.

dehesa extremeña

Where we live, EXTREMADURA, there are a lot of oak trees and evergreen trees that contribute to our sceneries and they’re very important in our economy too (the appreciated wood, and the fabulous “dehesa extremeña” the place where Iberian pig is breed to obtain the famous Iberian jamón of acorn).

laguzLAGUZ: Celtic rune related to sea and water. The power of the intuition and the unconscious give to Laguz a mystery link with the powers of the moon. It’s related with the growth and fertility physical and spiritually; femininity and the colour deep green.
